'The Pleasaunce Post'

Trafalgar Day

 

The Last Post rang out across East Greenwich Pleasaunce last Saturday, 18th October, during the annual Trafalgar Day memorial service.

Naval veterans, sea cadets, the Deputy Mayor and locals gathered in glorious Autumn sunshine to commemorate all those who had lost their lives at sea in defence of their country.

   

The dignified and moving service, led by Reverend Jeremy Fraser, was attended by Councillor Allan MacCarthy, Greenwich's Deputy Mayor, who, along with others, laid a wreath on the step of the Memorial Plaque.

The service was followed by tea, cakes and the perennially popular hot rum toddies provided by the Friends of East Greenwich Pleasaunce.

Who wants to run the cafe?

On the 23rd September Greenwich Council posted an advert on its website asking for expressions of interest from operators who might want to run the new cafe in the Pleasaunce.

The delay in advertising the business opportunity has unfortunately pushed the cafe opening back into 2009. It was originally meant to open early Autumn.

The Friends of East Greenwich Pleasaunce committee has been promised some input into the final selection process for the cafe operator and has made it clear that we would not welcome a fast-food style outlet.We'll keep you posted on developments.  

Pleasaunce Photo Competition

The Pleasaunce Photo Competition is now closed to new entries. A selection of the photos will be displayed on this website shortly.

It would be really helpful if all those who entered using digital cameras could email their entries to me, Matthew Wall, at mtpwall AT o2.co.uk. Otherwise I will have to rescan your prints and the quality might suffer.

The winner will be announced during our Carols in the Park event currently scheduled for Sunday 7th December (2pm to 4pm).
